Information

What AB 1705 describes (§ 22614)

Before a user uploads sexually explicit content, the law describes a statement the user submits under penalty of perjury: each person shown was not a minor when the content was made, consented to being shown and consents to the upload. The user also gives contact details, at a minimum an email address (§ 22614(a)(2)).

The law says the operator verifies the user’s email address before permitting the upload (§ 22614(c)) and keeps the statements and contact details for at least seven years (§ 22614(b)).

The law’s own definition decides which sites it covers. A lawyer can confirm whether that’s you.

Beta

Our California upload check (CA-01, Beta)

The check is for sites where our scan finds an upload or creator sign-up link. We open that public page without logging in and note whether a consent or certification statement and an email-verification step are visible there.

We can’t see what happens after login, whether statements are actually collected, or whether records are kept. If the upload page sits behind a login, the check shows “Not checked”.

Status on 20 October 2026: Beta, part of every full scan.
